Activity
probably easier said than done, but it might be interesting to explore ways to create a city wide system that recruits local media makers and gets them "approved" to work with youth. From this you could have a pool of eligible volunteers that different organizations could solicit for support.
Yes, and often it is a process (background checks & admin approval) to get visitors approved to come in and work with our youth. This can cause quite a delay. Its not always the case, depending on the school I think.
Hi Lisa! Im right there with you when it comes to looking for people to work with my students. Would be nice to explore ways to leverage the skills of media makers in the area towards working with the youth.
Hi Lisa, I'm not sure how we could coordinate getting grad students to help with your project. How about sending a post to the mailing list: c4fcm-youth@media.mit.edu.
Hi Mark!
Thanks for arranging the meeting on Thurs. There was such great energy I didn't want to leave!
cheers

Hi Mark & Ingeborg -
My media makers will be filming over the next 3 weeks...any help is welcome! Also, the Boston Public Schools is having a technology exhibition on May 2 2008 and needs a keynote speaker (and a location actually that is tech-supportable i.e. wifi etc). The entire exhibition is student-driven and will include workshops on media making put on by BPS high school teens (including my own from the podcasting and video and web classes). We need a location and a keynote speaker...any ideas are welcome! I can get you more details as the planning commences...

If you're interested, I could introduce you to a growing pool of documentary-makers. They could help you and your students to create visible media, increase their impact on the civic landscape, and trigger sustained awareness about issues that mainstream media tends to overlook.
Thanks for the invite! Happy to be here!
Quick initial idea to throw at you...My media makers need mentors to take them around the school grounds to film for the civic PSAs - there's only 1 of me and 5 teams! Would any of your grad students be interested in helping out?
Cheers & looking forward to working in this space...so far so good!
lisa
